Last week, I was fortunate to be down in Ōtautahi Christchurch to run a series of workshops for the CMA (Cantebury Mathematical Association) in my role as a NZAMT (New Zealand Association of Mathematics Teachers) Bevan Werry speaker. Two of the workshops were ones I had run during 2024 with teachers in Whangārei for the NMA (Northland Mathematics Association) and teachers in Tauranga for the BOPMA (Bay of Plenty Mathematical Association), but three were newer activities.

On Thursday evening, we focused on creating and exploring data from digital sources, and modelling curiosity through learner-sourced data construction and guided exploration. The slides from the workshop are embedded below.

On Friday, we explored informal approaches to classification models, first using unplugged approaches, before moving to GUI-supported modelling approaches (but still data and human driven). The slides from the day are embedded below.

As always, the slides don’t capture all the great conversations that are had whenever you get an awesome bunch of teachers together to talk about teaching statistics and data science! Thanks CMA, NMA and BOPMA, for inviting me to your regions to share my work 😀
